Hi!  Does anyone know the answer to this....

How can I make it so MRP does not suggest quantity or date changes within a certain period

My next question is, if MRP suggests to change a quantity or date of a purchase order is there a way to ignore the suggestion, refresh and run it again so it ignores the changes but also suggests a new PO in the future on what is needed WITHOUT making those changes?

    1. I hope this is a change happening in a testing environment, as drastic changes like that could negatively impact a business.
    2. The Dampener Period and Dampener Quantity does NOT prevent the system from making changes, it relates to reductions or delays in demand.
      1. If the Requested Delivery Date moves out into the future, but within the dampener period, the system will leave the supply order alone.
      2. If the Quantity goes down, but the decrease is less than the dampener quantity, the system will leave the supply quantity alone.
      3. IF the Quantity goes UP, you will need additional supply and the system will suggest a "Change Qty." suggestion in the Planning Worksheet.
      4. IF the Date moves EARLIER, or beyond the dampener period, the system will suggest a Cancel/New or Reschedule in the Planning Worksheet.
    3. There is a field called "Planning Flexibility" on the Purchase Order Line.  You can prevent the system from making changes to that specific line, but in the case where the demand moves earlier in time (before the supply will arrive), you will get a suggestion for a New Purchase Order WITHOUT change to your existing Purchase Order line.  This can lead to extra inventory on the shelves with no demand.
I would suggest discussing the implications of this change with your partner so they can help determine the best course of action for your business needs.

This is how I have the dampener setup.  The example that was given is for 7 days, so since I set this to 8w and the dampener quantity to 1,000,000 I thought it would work the same and ignore the change and let me place a new purchase order knowing no changes were going to be made to the earlier purchase order?

There is nothing in BC to freeze a specific time period from changes by MRP.

The dampener period, as mentioned before, can soften the impact of changes in demand.  For example, if a customer demand is present for Aug. 10th, but the customer changes their requested date to Aug. 15th, a 7D (7 day) dampener period will ignore the change.  It will complete the supply as originally planned and you'll hold the inventory during the dampener period.  If the customer changed their requested date to Aug. 25th, the system would either Cancel/New or Reschedule the existing supply order to match the new requirements.

I hope this helps explain the dampener period a bit better.

Thanks for your response.  I read something from someone else that the "Dampener period" should do this.  I tried it on a couple items and it did... then some items it does not work or only works sometimes.  I have been making sure the item cards and stock keeping units are the same and they are.  Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi, unfortunately, as far as I know the standard can't do this. And even if it is customized, it is not that simple.

Hopefully other experts can give you better advice.

    Thanks.
