Renaming a class that has been checked into Version Control

Hi, I'm in Ax 2009 and I'm trying to rename a class that has been checked into version control. If I check it out and try to rename, I get this message:

Unable to rename Class XXX. The application object is checked out. Select Undo checkout to discard your changes or change the name back.

And I can't rename when it is not checked out.

Any Ideas?

As far as I know, you really should rename it when it's not checked out (it'll be checked out automatically). Why exactly can't you do that?

Which version control system are you using?
