Hi In BC project implementation, the data migration include master data and opening balances, open documents as a norm. But how about historical data migration?

Could someone share their experiences on what types of data might be able to be brought into BC? Many thanks for your sharing.

We generally don't recommend bringing historical data; we only get the opening balances. If you need to include historical data, you must create and post those documents, which is time-consuming and prone to errors.

Hi,

This isn't a standard practice, but if it's a requirement, I would suggest ensuring that the historical data table balances match the opening balance. Additionally, check with your consultant to see if they are posting to a clearing account with debit and credit zeroing out.

Hello,

Yes i do agree with Mr. Ramesh Kumar and Mr. Suresh Kulla.

It is neither standard Practice to Upload Historical Data in New BC nor suggestable. We will take the Opening Balances of Customers, Vendors and G/l Accounts by Posted Documents which has Remaining Balances.

And if you want to Enter the Open Purchase Orders and Open Sales Orders then you can use the Purchase Journal and Sales Journal for the same.

Historical Data Migration in BC: Not standard practice. Only opening balances (Customers, Vendors, G/L) are migrated. Open orders can be entered via journals.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Let's consider a simpler scenario that the customer wants to keep a few years of balances in BC such as 2023, 2024, and the opening balance of 2025. This could be achieved by posting the balance of 2023 and then post the net change for each following year?

I understand it is also possible to move historical data to a data lake. Has anyone done that? Is it a costly endeavor?

We have attempted this for a few clients, but it is not easy. Import all historical docs as open docs, make sure that the amounts are correct, then post those documents with backdating, and finally confirm that all financials are in good order.

I do not recommend this at all.
