Error when importing managed solution with removed plugins.

I have two plugins on my DEV environment which are exported as a managed solution and deployed to PROD. I recently made a change on DEV and removed (unregistered) one of the plugins. I bumped the solution version and exported it as managed (as previously). While importing the managed solution in PROD I got an error:

0x80048071 Existing plug-in types have been removed. Please update major or minor verion of plug-in assembly.

Tried to bump the assembly version, but Plug-in Registration tool gave me an error. I think I can solve this by connecting the Plugin Registration tool to PROD and removing the Plugin registration there, but is this really the solution? What if I distributed my solution to many clients - I wouldn't be able to connect to their PROD environment and unregister the Plugin. What is the "right" approach when updating and changing plugins?

    Hello,

Open the Production Plugin Registration Tool and Remove the one which is not Need, then try reimporting the solution again. There is no other way

But how do solution developers who upload their managed solution on app source handle that. You can't tell me that plugin registrations just stay forever in the managed solutions? Maybe there is some programmatic way to remove the registrations from another plugin?

No, you can directly login to Plugin Registation tool and Unregister the Step , for the same

How could I login if I don't have an account? Let's say I published my app on AppSource (docs.microsoft.com/.../publish-app-appsource) and made changes to my plugins, then I wouldn't be able to do that.
