Can we upgrade to Saas from BC23

Hi All,

Can we Upgrade BC23 to Saas environment directly, without upgrading to BC25, and can anyone give me the references for conversion of BC23 onpremise to Saas version.

Hi @Sarath,

Yes you can move directly from Business Central 23 on-premises to SaaS without going through BC25 or higher first.

As of October 2020, Microsoft enabled direct migration to SaaS from any on‑prem version BC14 (Spring 2019) or newer—so BC23 is fully eligible for direct SaaS migration.

Hi,

No, you can't directly migrate from BC23 on premise to BC 26 Cloud version

You need to first upgrade to BC 25 on premise and then BC 25 on premise to BC 26 cloud migration.

Yes, you can migrate directly from BC23 On-Premises to BC SaaS without upgrading to BC25 first. Microsoft supports direct migration from BC14 or newer versions to SaaS, so BC23 is fully eligible

Here’s how to approach it:

Migration Steps

Use the Assisted Setup wizard in BC23 to initiate Cloud Migration

Install and configure the Microsoft Integration Runtime

Define your SQL connection string to the on-prem database

Select companies to migrate and schedule the sync

Monitor migration status via the Cloud Migration Management page

Key Considerations

All customizations must be packaged as AL extensions

Base App modifications are not supported in SaaS

Ensure SUPER permissions for at least one user

SQL database must be at compatibility level 130 or higher

Recommended to keep migrated data under 30 GB per run for performance

Yes. You don’t have to go via BC 25 first—you can take a BC 23 on-prem database straight up into SaaS. Microsoft has supported direct migrations from any on-prem version 14 or newer since late 2020.

You can move to BC23 SaaS. From there, you update your BC23 SaaS to the latest version.
