Hello,

I'm doing setup for Unfied Developer experience. I have one dev environment and I install the power platform extension as mentioned below link. The  connection made successfully to dev environment using Connect to Datavere from tools. But visual studio 2019 Pro not showing Dialog box to download the finance and operations Visual Studio extension and metadata. Please advice further.

    Hi to all,

I post on this older thread, as I had the same problem.
This is how I resolved the issue:

Before connecting to Dataverse, be sure to check the following:
    • In Visual Studio > Tools > Options > Power Platform Tools, the Auto setup for Dynamics 365 if using Unified environment parameter should be active.
    • As per MS Documentation, assets are downloaded in C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Dynamics365\<ApplicationVersion>. If you want to be sure that the process is being done from scratch, delete the Dynamics365 folder.
Be careful with this action, this will delete ALL <ApplicationVersion> for other Dataverse Environments. Here I am assuming you are performing a first time configuration and no <ApplicationVersion> folder is already present.
    • The Output window should be visible. When opening VS the first time, maybe without any solution, the Output window is not automatically opened. To do so, go to View > Output or press Ctrl+Alt+O.

Then I tried connecting to a Dataverse environment of choice (Tools > Connect to Dataverse...). In the Output window it appeared this message:
Aborting further client setup. Please ensure that SQL Server Express LocalDB is up and running with windows authentication enabled for user.
Apparently, during my VS installation, the "SQL Server Express Local DB" component was not installed. I modified my VS installation to include it (in VS: Tools > Get tools and feature. It will open the "VS Installer". Under Individual components look for SQL Server Express Local DB).

Then, I opened VS again and connected to my Dataverse environment. Now in Output window I see a success message and I am prompted if I wish to download the "Finance and operations extension and metadata".

I hope this helps anyone still having this issue. Eventually, I hope that having thee Output window open will show any different error messages.

Same issue here using VS 2022.  Also tried clicking on the menu option titled "Download Dynamics 365 FinOps assets", but it does nothing.

Have followed these instructions to the letter:

Also tried instructions/tips from this site:

    No success.

Is there any answer yet to the issue of not getting the popup to offer the F&O Extension?

we are running VS2022, if that makes a difference?
I have tried all the suggestions on this thread, but still cannot get the popup for the download.

Is there any other way to request it?

    Many thanks

I know this is an older post, but we're having a similar issue trying to set up our unified developer experience with D365. Following the set up instructions we were able to get to the same point as OP, only to have no pop up requesting the installation of any metadata from FinOps. Dataverse has been connected, and we have confirmed our demo environment is set to 'sandbox'.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps the extension itself could be manually downloaded and installed from the vsix file that we have on our Virtual Machine to a local development environment. However we have not tried this yet. I've also tried this set up process on both VS 2022 and VS 2019. Same issue.

I would advise to configure this variable in your machine and try again to download finopp assets.

Thanks for the response Umesh Pandit
The issue is we're doing all of these steps and we have all the prerequisites and caveats satisfied but still unable to get the popup saying that "Proceed with downloading missing metadata and F&O VS extension"
If you have any solution for that, That would be great.

To download and install the Finance and Operations extension and metadata in Microsoft Dynamics 365, you can follow these steps:

    1. Prerequisites: You need access to a provisioned developer-focused sandbox environment. The user account you’ll be using for development in the sandbox environment must be assigned the System Administrator role.
The development machine running Microsoft Windows must have Visual Studio 2019 installed with at least the .NET desktop development workload and the Modeling SDK.

    2. Install the Power Platform extension for Visual Studio: Follow the instructions in this article to install the marketplace extension.

    3. Connect to your online environment: After you have installed the Power Platform Tools extension for Visual Studio, follow these instructions to connect Visual Studio to your unified developer-focused environment.

    4. Download and install the finance and operations extension and metadata: After installing the Power Platform Tools extension and connecting to the online Dataverse sandbox environment, you’ll be presented with a dialog to download the finance and operations Visual Studio extension and metadata.

I this FAQs article from Microsoft they mentioned that the environment must be of type "Sandbox" not "Trial", We've encountered the same issue and we're working with a sandbox type environment but the issue persists.
    Any other solutions so far??
