GP and SQL Database Stability

Hello everyone!  Wondering if anyone might be able to help me get an answer to this.
We have a client who is interested in switching over from Business Visions to GP 2010 and they one thing they need clarification on.
Their current issue with Business Visions is that if there is:

a)      Power outage

b)      Server runs out of disk space

Their database is then corrupted and unreliable when either of these things happens during the middle of transactions, postings, etc.

This client is a very technical person and wants to know how GP and a SQL server solution is more resilient when it comes to network outages and disk errors (eg. can it result in unbalanced transactions if not all of the SQL transactions are committed?, etc... will SQL server and GP be smart enough to roll back all related transactions if there was a crash after transaction 3 of 5 was posted)
Thank you!

    Hi Adam,

While I cannot comment on SQL Server 20XX resiliency to these issues, GP generally does a very good job with a loss of power or connection during the posting process.  GP has a feature called "Batch Recovery" that will generally kick on during these times.  While this is not always the case, I have seen this "save the day" more often than not during these instances.  Like I mention though, this isn't 100% the case as sometimes data table clean-up is necessary.

As far as running out of disk space, I cannot comment as I have not encountered this directly during the posting process.

    Hi Adam,

GP relies solely on SQL for all of the issues you mentioned. There is no one answer for your question as it depends on the SQL setup. Here are some links you will want to review:

i used to sell GP.  I Was a user before and am now a user again after selling GP.

Part of the sales demo when i was first a user was an a/p batch of 200 transactions.  The sales person hit post then turned off the computer, simulating a power outage.  GP recovered the batch.  When I sold GP i did the same thing.  GP recovered the batch every time.

Show that as part  of your demo.

Since your lead is techy savy talk about the sql log, that if set right you can roll back to moments before issues.

I think the large batch demo however is the key. It wowed my employers when we first saw it and it wowed my leads when i sold GP.
