Database Connection Issue

Posted on by 100

I restored my Microsoft Dynamics Point of Sale 2.0 DB to a SQL Server 2005 from the local database.  Now while I can change the connection in the application just fine meaning the list of databases appear form the server, when I try to login as a cashier account it won't login.

The error I get is "login failed for user . the user is not associated with a trusted sql server connection" which usually means the SQL server security is set to Windows only mode but the server setting is actually set to mixed mode.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

LP

First, all db's MUST have a db_owner.  Changing the db_owner is described in tech notes from the MS-SQL sites but I do not think you need to do this.

Once you have moved the db, can you sign on as a sys_admin?  If so, you will need to re-establish cashier users.

You should probably contact your partner at this point for on site assistance.

    Thanks Richard,

I attempted to remove the users it brought over in the restore but dbo and db_owner could not removed or changed.  I was using the POS Manager's Guide to move the DB.  Do you have any documentation that describes the steps top move from the SQL express to SQL Standard Edition?

    Thanks again,

     Larry

     Richard,

Will this work for POS?  That was the application he was asking about (I think???)?

    Re: Database Connection Issue

GP provides a utility called Grant.sql (found in the SQL folder) which adds rights to tables to appropriate roles.  Also, there are scripts that need to be run under the original sql and then again under the new sql to move logins.  If it is too late to run the pre-move script, you will need to delete the user logins out of the db and re-create security,

I would say that you will get a better response in the POS forums.  Since these forums are completely GP based, it would be kind of a "shot in the dark" as to whether or not anyone here actually used POS.

    Good luck.
