Hi All
We are just starting with a D365 BC implementation
We have a DC (which also has small production capabilities) and 3 production locations (which also house finished goods). 80% of product ships from the production location to the DC and then to customer.
We really don’t want to have to have sales people enter sales orders based on availability by location (we want to show global availability)
20% of the time, we ship directly from the production facility (if we have a full truck load).
Very occasionally, we may ship from one production facility to another (to fill a truck) and then ship product from there
A bit stuck about how to set this up
My thinking is that the best setup would be use stock keeping units and to place all sales orders against the DC where all items produced elsewhere are setup as "Transfer From". The main issue I see with this is is what do we do if the same item is produced at the DC and at another production facility. I think I'd need to setup the item at the DC as: transfer from each prod facility and make to order at the DC.
Having said that, this intrigues me (from: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-nav-app/design-details-transfers-in-planning):
"Even if the SKU feature is not used, it is possible to use locations and make manual transfers between locations. For companies with less advanced warehouse setup, the planning system supports scenarios where existing inventory is transferred manually to another location, for example to cover a sales order at that location. At the same time, the planning system should react to changes in the demand."
Any suggestions on best way to set this up?
Thanks
M
