Dexterity Test mode on Windows 10

Anyone running Dexterity on Windows 10? Just updated a machine to Windows 10 and Dexterity crashes in test mode when opening any window.  I can log into GP but once I try to open a window, I get Application Error 1000.  Anyone else having this problem?  Happens with different dictionaries, both with Dex 2013 and 2015.  Interestingly, doesn't happen with 2010.

Here are the details of the error:

    Hi Bill,

I haven't been brave enough to update to v 10 on a machine I need to rely on :). I'll update one of my extra computers tonight and see how it acts.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Forgot to mention that the only dictionary which doesn't crash consistently in test mode is the original source dictionary.

I've determined that the problem is with the "Action Pane" or "Ribbon".  If I turn it off and revert to the old style menus, no crashing problems.

    Hi Bill

I will install Dexterity on a machine that has already been upgraded and test.

I installed SQL Server 2014, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 and the matching Dexterity 14.0 and everything appears to be working fine.

Did you copy the dlls as mentioned in my article:

This is the workstation class machine I've done all of my development on for years. All GP runtimes and Dexterity installs and various dictionaries (GP original source, Fixed Assets, AA, my apps, etc.) were working perfectly in test mode: 2013 and 2015.  I had a perfectly working Windows 7 machine.  I upgraded it to Windows 10 and none of the Dexterity installs from (RTM, SPs, R2s, etc.) work with the Action Pane enabled yet work fine with the Action Pane disabled, reverting to the old pre-2013 R2 menus.

(I'm familiar with the issues relating to various dlls that are not normally installed by the Dexterity install and are required to run Dex in test mode.)

When you did your testing, are you working with a dictionary that you've modified and one that has code that is designed to integrate with the Action Pane?  I'm convinced that, if you run original GP dictionary with no code that integrates with the Action Pane, you'll be fine.  This is why the GP source dictionary will not cause the crash in test mode.  But if you have triggers that integrate your app into the GP Action Pane, you'll crash every time.

My next step is to see if the FA and AA also crash.  I'll lyk.  At this point, I'm think that it's an issue with Dex and the way it paints the Action Pane. It's so consistently crashing, regadless of which window I open.

    Hi Bill

I have tested with my GP Power Tools code which creates an area page and it works fine. I don't have any code which integrates with Navigation Lists or Action Panes to test with.

At this stage I believe that I am all clear to upgrade my primary system to Windows 10.

    Hi Mallesh

Please don't copy my blog posts so they look like your answer.

I had already posted the link to my article.

Please continue to respond on forum posts, but when you find the answer in another article, post the link to that article. Don't cut and paste the content so that it looks like your answer.
