Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

Connectivity problems.

Posted on by 955

HI I have a test machine that has been setup for testing Great Plains that I will be writing some Crystal Reports. When I try to connect through Crystal Reports using ODBC (RDO) what is bring shown is this:

 Dynamics GP 01
             Master
                 DBO
                    Tables

but I am not seeing the SOP table as yet, in any of these.

Does this like it's connected correctly for me to be getting at these SOP tables ?

Yes yes that is it. I now have the correct tables.

Thank you very much for your assistance,

Those sounds like Stored Procedures to me.  Is it possible you have Crystal Reports set to look for something other than tables?  Or to look for everything and it's maxing out?  Try this:

    1. Go to File > Options > Database tab

    2. Under Data Explorer Section uncheck everything except Tables

    3. In the Table name LIKE: field enter the following:      SOP%

    4. Click OK

Now see if you get a different list.

OK the connection to the Company database has been made. What I am seeing however is tables that don't have the same names as I was given. There is no SOP10200 or SOP30300. All the SOP's have no numbers but these are some tables: SOPGETID:1, SOP_Backorderallocate:1.

I was expecting to see the files that an existing Crystal Reports is using. Is it that there is an additional database I need, or am I missing something?

I don't know of any easy place to find documentation on this, but when you are creating the ODBC connection, there is a screen (I believe it's the 3rd one in) that has a checkbox at the top for 'Change the default database to:' - check that box and use the drop-down list to find our company database.  If you are still not seeing it there, then it either does not exists in SQL or you do not have permissions to it.

Victoria, When I make the connection with Crystal it only finds the Master. About this hard code method, do you have any documents to show how to do this?

    Thank you!

    Re: Re: Re: Connectivity problems.

If Dynamics GP is already setup on your test machine, then all the needed company databases should be there already, you just need to get Crystal to look at them.  From what you have described it sounds like you are pointing Crystal to look at the 'master' database, not one of your GP company databases.  Depending on the version and service pack of Crystal, you may either need to create a new connection within Crystal or (for older version of Crystal) create a new ODBC that hardcodes the correct GP company database, not 'master'.

K Day, Thanks for your keen insight. Is there some way whereby I can make these company, or can I instigate the copy of the Company? WHat I mean is, how does this happen?

You have a test system, but have you created a Company in that system yet?  The company database is where that information is stored.  You shoudl see a Database called DYNAMICS and then some company databases.  For instance, if you addd the sample company database, it would be called TWO.

If you need to create a company, you need to log into GP Utilities as SA and create the company.
