Hello,
We're using D365 online and I'm trying to add a calculated field on a Contact to pull a value from the parent Account. Here's the field I created to test this on Contact in our Sandbox environment:
And searching for parentaccountid the lookup never shows up:
If I put any other field, I know to be on the account it just errors saying invalid reference. I've read article upon article saying this is how this is done, but it's just not working for me. Any insight would be appreciated.

You should use correct logic name of the lookup field you need:
In calculated field, insert parentcustomerid.
After inserting dot notation behind correct lookup name, you can select fields from account:
