When enabling DDMRP functionality - is there a way to still see long-term capacity reservations for items using that planning methodology as there are no longer planned production orders created?
Good morning, afternoon, or evening :) depending on your location! When enabling Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP) in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, long-term capacity reservations can become less visible because DDMRP focuses on short-term, demand-driven planning rather than traditional planned production orders. However, there are ways to manage and monitor capacity reservations even with DDMRP: Options to Manage Long-Term Capacity Reservations with DDMRP
Use Buffer Profiles and Levels:
DDMRP relies on buffer profiles and levels to manage inventory and production. You can monitor these buffers to ensure that capacity is aligned with expected demand over time.
Adjust buffer levels dynamically to account for long-term capacity needs.
Combine DDMRP with Traditional MRP:
While DDMRP does not create planned production orders, you can run it alongside traditional MRP for items or processes that require long-term capacity planning.
Use MRP for capacity-intensive items while leveraging DDMRP for decoupling points.
Leverage Planning Optimization:
The Planning Optimization Add-in for Dynamics 365 can help analyze capacity requirements and provide insights into long-term planning, even when using DDMRP.
Custom Reporting and Dashboards:
Create custom reports or dashboards to track capacity utilization and reservations over time. This can provide visibility into long-term capacity needs without relying on planned production orders.
Manual Capacity Reservations:
For critical resources, you can manually reserve capacity in the system to ensure availability for long-term projects or high-priority items.
Review DDMRP Execution Data:
Use the execution data from DDMRP to identify trends and patterns that can inform long-term capacity planning.
Hope this helps!
