How to overwrite existing organizational data

Hi Team,

I have existing organizational units and facilities in my MSM environment which I uploaded via the Excel Template function. Now, I would like to create upgrade my game and create a Power Query connection to upload the organizational data directly from a master data source list as this list contains more and better information.

I created the connection, used the same organizational unit name as already existing in MSM and thought that the system would recognize the already existing org unit and just enhance the data. But instead, the upload did not work with the error message "Duplicate record". So the system did indeed recognize the existing org unit, but did not add to the data or overwrite it.

How can I create a power query connection for the organizational units if the data was already uploaded via Excel template? Or can you think of another way to achieve what I'm trying to do?

Thanks and cheers,
Lea

The way to do this would be through the use of Origin Correlation ID
I assume you do not have that set in your data right now though? Maybe you can go through and update the rows?

    Hi Vanya,

thanks again for the quick answer!
Indeed, I don't have that set up at the moment, but I can add it, should be no problem. So I add the Origin Correlation ID to my data in MSM and make sure that the same OCID is setup in my organizational data source system. And then the dataset is updated or overwritten?
Anything else I need to consider when setting this up?

    Cheers, Lea

One thing to note is that you cannot assign OCID post-factum to activity/emission records - only during record creation (or as part of data import)
But should be fine for reference data, I guess.

Also, this flow with updating existing records is slower compared to just plain insertion of new records.

Other than that, nothing comes to mind
