How make autofill text fields from lookup on the portal Entity Form?

Posted on by 86

Hi all!

I'm using Microsoft portal v8, and CRM online 2016. I want to make autofill data from the selected lookup field on the Entity Form.

For example:

i have a lookup on the form as the contact and 3 text fields: name, email, telephone. Is there possible to get FullName, Email and Phone from this selected lookup field ?

Thanks in advance!

If I understand you correctly, someone will select a contact using a lookup field and then you want other fields on the form to auto filled based on the selected contact.

As stated above quick view might be what you're looking for and it is supported.  If you are instead looking to clone it to another entity where the user can edit it then it will depend on if it is important for your users to see this all in one screen on v8 due to the no custom coding limitations currently.

If you wanted it on 1 screen, you would write an API that you could call on change of the input for the lookup.  The issue is in v8 you would have to host that API elsewhere in another web app and you wouldn't be able to put any security on it.

If its unnecessary for the user to see it or you can do it in 2 steps then you can use a workflow and a 2 step web form.  On step 1 have the contact lookup and the create or update of that field you have a synchronous workflow that fills the other fields with the related data, when they land on step 2 the fields should have values that they could then modify if they wanted to.

    Hi Jercy,

To do that I have created a quick view form for the Contact entity(with the required fields) and added that quick view form to the form I needed to show it(in my case the Opportunity form).
