Will a Server 2016 key work with the latest Dynamics 365 on prem?

Looking to migrate a database to the on premise CRM, I already have a Dynamics CRM Server 2016 cd key through our MSDN. Will this work with the latest Dynamics 365 Server 9.0 download? Or will I need to install 2016 and update from there?

You will need a dedicated V9 key. CRM 2016 will take you up to 8.2.3 (currently latest).

Edit: There's a 90 day trial key in the download page of the V9 if you wish to try it out. (You might encounter problems while setting it up)
