How to see which part goes to which work order

Hello,

Our company just started using Business Central, and we're a bit lost on identifying which part goes to which order.

We have about 300+ finished product, each containing their own bill of material.

How we currently work:

A new Sales Order comes in. We then create a work order from that sales order. Then we run the planning worksheet to see which parts we need to manufacture for the finished product (These are the items in the bill of materials).

However, the planning worksheet would create more work orders and this is where we get lost.

We have parts that are repeated in different finished product and there are times where a sales order contains 20+ different finished product. When running the planning worksheet, items that are repeated are produced together, but we aren't sure in which finished product it goes to unless we open the bill of materials for every single machine to find it.

Is there any other way that would help us identify which part goes to which finished product?

this is the challenge of the planning, it allows user to define parameters to achieve minimal stock and good timing so it bundles demands across orders. it is in nature difficult to trace and validate given the complexity/interplay of so many levers. you could use Order tracking function to validate but that is also lots of work as well.

It could work, but then that would mean we have to run the planning worksheet multiple times. We usually nest two weeks of orders for production. So doing it one by one, we could potentially run it 1000 times

you could try running the planning worksheet filtering by finished item. this way, the result is easier to track.

if you run for all items at once, it'll create too many line, possibly combine, reschedule certain lines/item based on planning parameter, which makes it very difficult to track
