Excel refreshable Reports

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by Microsoft Employee

It seems everytime I deploy Excel reports with ODC I run into errors.  In the latest instance when I select to view the report from the navigation pane a web browser opens as opposed to Excel showing the path to the network location. I have deployed the reports and connections to a shared network drive.  I can open the report from the shared folder location but when doing so I receive a Query Refresh window prompting me to Enable Macros.  I would like all reports to refresh when opening.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

You can set up the shared folder as a trusted location in Excel. That should take care of the need to enable macros each time.

If I am reading your post correctly you wish to completely turn off MS Excel Macro security in Office 2003.

Turning off Macro security is not recommended by MS, however you can do so by creating the following registry key and populating it as instructed:

     Create registry key [DWORD] at:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options\QuerySecurity

Set the value of this key to 2

Doing the above will cause the user profile on the machine to be open to auto-execute Excel macros that could contain malware and/or virus code which is why MS took away the GUI option to fully disable macro security in the first place.  I have had occasion to use this key several times in the past to facilitate cleaner workflows with Excel and VBA code.  It's not perfect but it works.

The security level was set at high.  I changed, saved and verified and I'm still not able to open without enabling macros.  I don't expect that this would affect the issue where the web browser is opening rather than Excel and it didn't resolve that either.   Thanks, Debi

    Debi,

You can also set the Auto refresh data by going to your file where the data is there, select on any cell where the external data is available, and the click  data range properties on the external data toolbar. Select Refresh Data on file open check box. Save the worksheet.

    Debi,

I feel it has something to do with Excel Macro security. Go to Excel=>Tools=>Macro=>Security=>Set to Medium or Low. Save the Excel, Close it and reopen excel to double check the settings are there and If not, do the process again. This happens sometimes with excel. Now, check if you are able to open the reports.

Sorry, I should have included that it's Excel 2003

    Debi,

Can You tell us what version of Excel are you currently using?
