"Cannot Access this form because the dictionary..." Upon Opening GP 2010

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

So I'm getting the error "Cannot access this form because the dictionary containing it is not loaded."  The error comes up before the company log in window even pops up.  If I close out of the error, GP opens just fine and appears to function properly.  It may just be an annoyance, but I can't figure out how to stop the error from coming up.

I normally log in as "sa", and I can log in just fine when I'm RDP'd from the server ... but my local install of GP throws this error.  I just installed GP on a user's 64-bit machine, as she gets that error too, but it's fine on her other 32 machine desktop.

Any ideas are welcome.  Thanks!

I received this error after applying the 2015 Year End updates.  It turned out the standard MS Dynamics GP screens for some of the payroll screens were no longer "selected" in the Alternate/Modified screen.  I had to go in and select the module, even though there were no modified forms or reports in this case, and select the standard screen.  Then the screen worked again successfully without getting the dictionary error.  It wasn't related to the dictionary at all in this case but the fact that NO screen was selected, standard or modified.  Check this before you create an incident with MS if the dictionary fix doesn't work.

    Aaron,

Verify that the Dynamics.set matches the instance that works and the instance that has the error.  (Typically located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010).  If it is a new install, the default location is usually set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010\Data.  If you use a shared location you can either edit the Dynamics.set file in notepad or within GP on the workstation that needs to be updated by navigating to Dynamics GP > Tools > Setup > System > Edit Launch File - highlight Microsoft Dynamics GP in the top pane and then enter the proper address in the lower pane - only for the Reports.Dic and Forms.Dic

    Hope that helps,

    Claude
