    Hello Pat,

You can normally shrink the log file without any problems. Make sure you have backups before starting.

    Regards,

    Kirk

RE: UPGRADE FROM VERSION 9 TO VERSION 2013

    Hi Pat,

This probably isn't all inclusive but here are some steps I wrote up for moving databases between servers for test upgrades. I think much of it applies to what you are trying to do.

    1. Transfer SQL Logins to the new server from the old.

      1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/878449

    2. Restore the Dynamics and Company Databases from the backups made in step 1.

      1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871973

      2. If changing SQL Versions you will need to change the compatibility version of the restored databases to match the SQL version currently running on the test server.

    3. Verify DYNSA owns the restored databases.

      1. In SSMS on the new server run sp_helpdb to check database ownership.

      2. If the Dynamics Database or Company Database you intend to upgrade is not owned by DYNSA transfer ownership using sp_changedbowner’DYNSA’

    4. Prior to beginning the update process login to GP as sa and make sure the same version number is shown on the test server as is current on the live server.

    5. Other Prep Stuff

      1. Verify that the Dynamics..DU000030 table is empty.

        1. If it isn’t empty truncate it using Delete Dynamics..DU000030

      2. Make sure the databases you plan to upgrade don’t have any previous information from a failed upgrade.

        1. Select * From DYNAMICS..DB_Upgrade where db_status <> 0

      3. Clear the DEXSQL log and make sure logging is enabled prior to launching utilities.

      4. Shrink the log files of both the company and dynamics databases.

        1. In SSMS right click the DB Name, select tasks, shrink, and file. Change the file type to log and take all defaults.

      5. Change the recovery model of the dynamics and company database from Full to Bulk Logged.

        1. In SSMS right click the DB Name, select properties. The recovery model is on the options page.

    6. Install the service pack or new version of GP.

      1. Make sure the service pack is unblocked prior to launching. If possible always right click and run as admin.

      2. If needed restart the server after installation.

    7. Launch GP Utilities as an admin.

      1. Upgrade your Dynamics and Company databases.

    8. Verify that the databases have been upgraded and GP shows the new version number.

    9. Install new versions of 3rd party software if necessary.

    10. Reset User Passwords using the sa account. If the server name changes you will have to reset them even though you captured them in step 1.

    Best regards,

    Kirk
