Multiple Opportunity Owners

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

I am working with a client whose business model requires ownership of an opportunity by more than one individual. Has anyone encountered this issue and come up with a solution? Creating teams with the groups of individuals wouldn't be a sustainable option.

Thank you!

Paige

You could create Connection between owners and opportunity to mark multiple ownership.

The Sales Team grid within opportunities will allow me to make connections between the users and the opportunities but it seems the reporting capabilities would be very limited

Definitely use Sales Team for multiple owners, that's the design intent of having it.

You should be able to build without any limitations based on relationship between user connection opportunity.  What limitation you are facing while building report?

For instance, for a chart to show revenue by opportunity owner you can't pull any sales team connections into the x axis. It would also mean issues for goals, as the metrics pull based upon the owners of records. Issues, meaning it would only pull the individual that is in the owner field which in this case would not make for correct reporting

The only thing I can think of is to add a new lookup field called Owner 2, and add this field to all views, forms, etc. This would lead to problems still.

As a side note, I went to click into this box, and the Actions popped up and somehow I managed to flag this as inappropriate. SORRY! How do I undo this?

I see . You could build report based on the connection and add it as iframe with in the Dashboard. In report you can add any kind of charts.

This sounds like the model and the method of reporting will be very misleading. You want to have multiple owners (say Alice, Bob and Charlie) for the same $1million Opportunity? And then create a chart of revenue by Owner? So all three salesperson's columns will include that $1million? I suspect you will mislead and confuse end users considerably if you do this.

As to reporting who is associated with the record, Connections or Access Teams seem the obvious choices. It is pretty trivial to produce filtered views to replace "My" opps with "My Connected opps" or "Opps I am in an Access Team for", if that gets you part way to the reporting you are trying to provide.

We actually already have additional user lookup fields in the system for this purpose but the primary issue is with the best way to use dashboards to represent the multiple ownership.

To solve the reporting issue, we have decided to take the owner lookup fields that have been created and combine them into a text field using JavaScript. There doesn't seem to be a great way to do this, and even the solution we have come up with will not make for the most attractive dashboards. But when viewing the dashboards it won't look like one person has singular ownership of the records at least.
