Hi Community,
I have some Trial items that I want to set up in Navision.
For these trial items, I don't want any SKU numbers, however, I will need to keep track of them for reporting and auditing purpose.
Kindly advise if I should create Nonstock Items for these.
Thank you!
Hi, I'm sorry I'm not a professional financial person, but as for as I know, in my country, the G/L account for samples is expense, not inventory. You can ask your financial officer how to keep the accounts in your country.
As for the situation you mentioned, I suggest to create a normal Item, A (sample), post it into the system.
After it is converted into an official product, it will be better to use the item Journal to do the negative adjustment of A (sample), and do the positive adjustment of A (official) into the system.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi Zhu, May I ask what would you suggest if we have the below scenario:
1. We don't want to have SKU to avoid auditor checking on the Trial Items.
2. Finance wants to know the quantity and we are generating reports from Navision, so its better to keep in the system.
3. The trial items after trial period will need to convert to real Items.
Should we..
a. Put it as NonStock Items, so that we can create as Item later. But I'm not sure if Nonstock Items can count quantity.
b. Or should we, as you suggest create as a general item, and change the posting group as Trial(Sample) - But in this case, then, 1. we will generate a SKU(which is undesirable. 2. Cn you suggest which G/L account should we put as Trial (Sample)?
Thank you so much for your help!
Thank you so much! This is what I want to find out!
Hi, Note that Nonstock Items will be converted to normal Items when you add them to the order. So no matter what, Nonstock can't be used.

I think it depends on your financial policy.
For example, do these trial items need to manage the inventory amount and quantity in the NAV? You don't even need to add them into the NAV if you don't need to.
If the finance needs to know the quantity, then you add it as a general Item, just change the posting group to Trial(Sample).
Hope this can give you some hints.
Thanks.
