Security role/privilege settings per menu

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Dear sirs,

Regarding the titled matter,

we want to prepare a security roles by assigning necessary menus' privileges to the roles in a simple manner.

Let's say... There is a security role created newly for Sales person.

Users assigned with the role can access..

  All customers

  All sales orders

  All free text invoices

but, they cannot access..

  Sales agreements

  Payment journal

  All purchase orders

Now, we are trying to achieve it by allocating necessary permissions from "Rich client" (Add permissions to privilege, View by: Main menu).

However, there are lots of issues in front of us.

For example,

All sales orders contains purchase orders related privileges and vice versa.

Also, it takes many and many hours to set it and test it and re-assign necessary privilege/remove unnecessary privilege and etc...

So, we wonder what would be the best practice for such a case, and would like to hear your suggestions.

Any ideas and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Best regards,

Tak

    Hi Tak,

The security development tool might help you for creating privileges and duties related to your specific scenarios. Don't expect that the security is done woth just a few hours. If you want to be Sox compliant it might take weeks or even months.

    Hi Tak Tak,

The optimal solution would be do create a new privilege granting each module menu items.

Then you can add them to a role and assign roles to users.

Privileges are very granular. You should mostly assign duties to your role, you will save a lot of time.

Or even use the out of the box roles if they are ok for you.

But you should not think about the menu so much, instead think of processes that you want to enable for the role. Then find the duties that grant access to those processes.
