FW and FWC Demo Company Databases

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi folks: I installed a fresh copy of the Managemnt Reporter and for the most part it works well. However, I do not have the demo FW company and the FWC company databases that were available with FRx.

I would very much like to get them and load them on my system with MR, because I find them very useful. Would anyone be able to tell me how I can them, and how I would I load them into my system so that I can use them with MR? I would very much appreciayte your quick response and advice.

Once Iagain I would like to thank all of you in advance for your contributions to this, and other forums.

Regards,

Deesom.

Hi Heather:  Thank you so much for your kind response. I did not migrate the reports from FRx6.7 over to MR. I did a fresh install of MR and created some sample reports. I was curious however, as to how I can use those pre-defined reports in my demos. I also see that you ahve gone to some length to work with the new version, and you are likely are a great source of information on the subject. Would you mind if I emailed you when I have a question to clarify? I would appreciate that very much.

Thank you once again for your help and responce - it is most appreciated.

    Regards,

    Deesom.

Re: FW and FWC Demo Company Databases

    Hi Deesom

I worked through the conversion tool and succesfully converted the FW and FWC formats to MR.  However, I actually found them to be less useful than I had hoped.  Some of the functionality is no longer supported (or doesn't work well - first release, I know so trying to be patient) so the results are a bit mixed.  I had to spend quite a bit of time fixing the reports that would work.

I ended up having to start again with my image and the second time around I actually didn't bother - I just created some simple reports from scratch.  This had the added bonus that I started to discover where the limitations or gaps were with MR.  I have been an avid supporter of FRx and love the functionality so it has been good to try and discover where the limitations are so I don't make some promises I can't keep!

I did however spot last week that some new VM's for 2010 have been released.  I haven't as yet downloaded them but maybe they have sample MR data already?  I do remember reading that there was going to be training machines released similar to the ones they had for FRx which would contain sample data.

    Cheers

    Heather
