Relationship between Reservation Entry vs Inventory qty

Hi,

We are having a weird issue with the reservation entry table, and I was hoping to get some clarification on the connection between this and the total inventory on hand. We have a lot tracked item (let's call it FRU-01) with a total inventory qty of 50k eaches across 3 locations. None of this inventory is reserved for open sales orders, but it should all be under the same lot number (LOT12345A). When I pull the reservation entry table, I'm only seeing positive surplus entries at these locations, with a total for 35k units.

Typically, if we are not manufacturing or purchasing the item at this location (and there are no transfers in place), is the total surplus for an item in reservation entry table supposed to supposed to match the total inventory at that location? If we do manufacture at that location, does the produced product end up being tracked as a surplus in the reservation entry table?

When you are doing the Reservation, it should show you all sources of supply, which would include your full Inventory Quantity if no other reservations exist.  If you create a Purchase Order, Production Order, Assembly Order, Transfer Order, etc. these all count as supply and should show in the list of possible Reservations (assuming they will be received on a date prior to the demand date).

Since your quantity available to reserve is not equal to your full available inventory, I would export the reservation entries table.  You may have a ghost reservation from prior testing that is throwing off your quantity available.

P.S. I would be doing all of this testing in a Sandbox environment before making any changes to your Production processes.
