Report Writer - converting string to numeric

I have a requirement to use the value in one of the user defined fields on the inventory master in simple math equation however I can't because it is string. I looked through the functions but did not see any to convert to numeric, is there one? Is there a more clever way to handle this? Just want to display this value in this field multiplied times the Quantity shipped on the packing slip, any advice would be great, thanks.

    There's a user-defined Report Writer function called RW_ConvertCurrencyStringToRWCurrencyValue, it accepts a string value and returns the equivalent currency value, so you could create a calculated field that calls this function, passing in your Inventory user-defined field. A second calculated field will then multiply the quantity shipped by the first calculated field.
