Workflow setup

Hello,

I am working with workflow in D365 F&O and I am really lost in the setup of workflow. There is a workflow for approving changes on WBS. In the workflow, there is many work items assigned to a different users.

The workflow is set like this:
  • assignment type is set as Hierarchy. This means that it follows the Position hierarchy set in F&O?

  • Hierarchy type is set to Managerial hierarchy and Start from is set to Resource. This is something I dont understand what it means at all. Could someone explain that to me or provide some documentation? I tried to search in microsoft documentation but did not find anything about that.
  •

I checked the users the work items are assigned to, but I do not see any logic behind. In the hierarchy, there is many /trees/, how is selected, from which tree the approvers are taking from, please? I suppose the tree of the hierarchy is chosen by /Resource/ but what does it means?

Thanks for any advice

    Hi,
when you set the assignment type of a workflow as Hierarchy, it means that the workflow will follow the Position hierarchy that is defined in F&O. The Position hierarchy represents the organizational structure and reporting relationships within your organization.
The hierarchy type is set to Managerial hierarchy, which indicates that the workflow will follow the managerial reporting structure. This means that the approval path will be determined based on the reporting relationships between different positions.
The Start from option set to Resource means that the workflow will start from the resource (user) who initiated the workflow. The approval path will be determined based on the position hierarchy starting from the resource's position.
Regarding the selection of the hierarchy tree for approvers, it depends on the specific configuration in your organization's Position hierarchy. Within the hierarchy, there may be multiple trees representing different branches or departments. The selection of the tree for approvers is usually determined by the reporting relationship defined between the positions and the resource's position within a specific hierarchy tree.
I've found a document for you that gives you an example to help you better understand the workflow hierarchy: exploredynamics365.home.blog.
    Best regards,
    Kevin

    HI @

It seems you have custom workflow on change in WBS, by default there is no workflow on WBS.

As per the configuration shown above, workflow should assign the manager of person who submit the workflow.

Please let us know if this is helpful.

    Thanks,
