The workflow was automatically rejected by the system. Alternate final approval was required, but no approver was found.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

End user (who has always done this) cannot process a purchase order.  Keeps getting the error message (shown in the subject line).  It's a one step workflow process - two approvers are listed and only one is required.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find out why this is happening?  We've tried a couple po's but get the same error.

thanks in advance

Deanne

My issue was that I was the originator and the approver in my testing.  There is an option to allow the originator to approve.  After selecting that the issue went away.  Not sure if that is what you are experiencing but that's what it was for me.

Did you get any feedback on this?  I cannot seem to get around this either...

Did you get some feedback on this?  I am getting the same processorarchitecture=msil.' error messages.

OK, I found the answer, at least for me.  I've set up workflow in a test company and I had myself as the approver.  Every time I submitted a request it would get automatically rejected.  So I noticed the option to allow the originator (me) to be an approver (me) also.  After enabling that option the automatic rejection stopped happening and I got the email saying I had a request that needed approval.

So then I disabled that option and changed the approver to somebody else in the company and tested again.  It worked fine.

Hopefully this will help somebody else.

Some have said that granting the SQL Server account permissions to read the AD container where the users are in solves this issue.  In our case, the SQL Server services run under a domain account but that domain account is in a different AD container than the regular users.  How do you go about granting these read permissions to the other AD container?  I couldn't find anywhere to do this.

    Thanks.

thanks IrieGP, granting the correct permissions helped me with the issue.

MS support helped me solve my issue. In my case the SQL server account did not have permissions to read the AD container the users were in. Granting permissions fixed the issue. If Donna B's solution works (as a test) then this is your issue.

    Hi Deanne

Did you get a resolution on this? Very interested in knowing the end result as I'm having the same issue.

    thanks KJ

Yes if you don't assign it to a specific person and choose the next approver option that is based off of the Active Directory hierarchies.
