Replacing a subassemble component at Upper Level of Assemble Process.

Please give me advice. Frequently we need to replace a subassemble component (serialization) at an upper level of assemble process. Once posting subassemble parts in manufacturing module, we cannot replace the component of the subassemble parts at the upper level of assemlying. I have researched the deport management to do this. But it looks like the component is only added to the upper level of assembling. Is it possilbe to take the bad part out from the uppler assemble parts and send it to a vendor to repair it?

Ex. Everything is serialized or lot items.

"FG" has two componets, one is made item (A), the other one is purchased item (B).

(A) has (C) component. Once completed (A) with a MO, (C) has passed a quality check.

During working on a new MO of "FG", (C) in (A) component of "FG" is failed. It need to be replaced the new (C) into "FG". The failed (C) will be shipped to a vendor.

    Akira,

You could use depot or you could also use Service Call Mgmt.  Service Call would is probably better but you need to create a configured item for that finished good from the MO.  the configured item will contain a list of the parts or at least the parts and s/n that you may need to replace.  Then with the Service Call you can replace a component of the top level item (in this case your item 'C').  From this returned part you can create a Return to Vendor and either replace the part with a new one off the shelf or wait for it to be repaired/returned from the vendor and then add back to your FG item.

Using SQL you can create the configured item upon MO receipt or you can manually create the configured item.

Alternatively create a repair BOM where the by-product is your part 'C' and run your top level assembly through this process, your part 'C' will then go back into inventory and you will consume a new part 'C' out of stock.

Not sure that this helps as mfg can be tricky and you might want to consult your partner for further information.  Be careful with costing as all of these transactions can/will impact the cost of the Finished Good.

    Wally
