Grid with contact relationship role

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Situation:

I set up a N:N relationship with a custom entity and the contact entity and I have a grid on the custom entity form to add contacts to custom entity like image below.

Question:

I need the ability to be able to indicate dynamically in the grid the role that this contact has with this specific custom entity record.

Thanks!

    Hi Barry,

You cannot specify any more information/fields on an OOB N:N relationship. In other words you can only specify the that a contact is involved in that particular other record and not that the contact is involved in an certain function.

If you need that, you could use the OOB connections functionality on which you can specify the role. Or create a new entity with a lookup to contact, a lookup to your custom entity and a new field to keep track of the role (or other custom fields / information you need to track on this relationship record)

    Best regards

    Thanks Goutam!

I see that opportunities comes out of the box with something called stakeholders that has the functionality of being able to indicate the role in the grid dynamically... Do you perhaps know if there is a way to copy that stakeholder grid into my custom entity?

    Hello Barry ,

In supported way or OOB way its not possible . Seems you have to implement custom fetchxml to retrieve the data and bind it in your grid.

Please check below article. Please note its unsupported and may not be work in future release of MS dynamics .
