vacation / sick time limits

Posted on by 230

Currently have a situation in which need to have limits on the amount of Vacation / sick time that will show up on employees paycheck stub.  If an employee is only suppose to get 80 hours for the year need to be able to limit the amount of time that is being reflected on the stub.

Can the core payroll module handle this type of transaction or would Human Resources be a better fit.

Thanks

Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

If you are wanting more functionality with Vac/Sick time I would recommend using either PTO Manager or HR (Both modules are included with GP2013).  While HR is more robust and has more options, it sounds like PTO Manager may be just right for your situation.  You can limit the amount of Vac/Sick accrued and it will stop at 80 hours per year or to whatever amount you set up.

    Hope this helps,

    Jeff

    Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for your follow-up.

    The Hours Per Year & Available fields are actually independent of each other.  The Available field decreases once vacation or sick time is taken, but it keeps accruing per pay period.  How the system calculates the inputed amounts is the following;

Hours worked during the pay period * Vacation hours per year / Work hour per year

This equation is used to come up with the accural amount they receive.

For the paystub issue, the field will appear so it would have to be removed or you would have to look into a customization.

    Thank you,

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Here is the follow up question that I have.

In the Employee Vacation / Sick Time Maitenance window in GP

The Accrue Vacation time box is checked Hours per Year  80.

The Accrue Sick time box is checked Hours per Year 48  Available reflects 169.  Shouldn't this number be limited to what is available to be used?  This is just one example of an employee's vacation / sick time.

The real issue is that the employer doesn't want to have more hours showing up on the employees paystub then they should be allowed.

    Regards,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for your post.

Of the two modules, Payroll would be a better fit for this function.  The check will most likely need to be modified if the vacation/sick time limits are different than what you set at the employee level.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Thanks,
