What is the Process on how to upgrade from CRM 2016 to 365....

Hello,

I am going to be updating our CRM 2016 on premise environment early next year and will be upgrading to 365 on premise.  Is there someplace that I can go or does anyone have the steps as to what things need to be done before the upgrade, during the upgrade and after the upgrade?  Also, what about custom entities and Contract entities, Contract line entities?  I understand these are going away and being putt into Entitlements.  What does that mean for us with moving to 365?

Thank you for your time.

Where do I go, or find the update that you are referring to, the 8.2?  Currently we are on 8.1.  Thank you.

At the moment, the only available upgrade for CRM 2016 on-premises is to version 8.2, which changes the branding to Dynamics 365 but it is still version 8.0.

Although version 9.0 has been released for Online, a 9.0 update is not yet available for On-premises.

You might review this link technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699716.aspx for more details on upgrades in general.

Your custom entities will be preserved during upgrade.

Contract and Contract Lines are deprecated which means that they will be removed at some point but I don't think an official removal announcement has been made. You should use entitlements instead. I'm not aware of a tool to migrate from Contracts to Entitlements. But contracts are still in version 9.0 Dynamics 365 Online.
