BC Shopify connector: variant code shows up instead of variant description on catalog page

Posted on by 3

Hi BC experts,

We tried syncing an Item that has Variants to Shoppify.
The Variants have descriptions as shown in this screenshot:
BC: Variants for item 1102 with descriptions

However in Shopify the variant codes are shown to the customer, instead of the descriptions.
My question: How do we get the variant descriptions to show up on Shopify?

Details of our current setup follow below.
The next screenshot shows the mapping op the variants in BC on the Shopify > Products page
Shopify product mapping in BC

As seen from the screenshot, Option1 name is set to "variant" and Option1 value is set to the code of the variant. The remaining options (2 and 3) are left empty.
This table was filled automatically when I added the product to "shop1".

Our setup of "Shop1" for syncing Items is shown in the next screenshot

On Shopify, the customer sees:

-----------------------------------------------------------
Variant codes shown on Shopify

This result is not as intended, the variant codes are not informative to the customer.
How can we get the description visible instead?

With best regards,
Wolter Kaper

Variants, just like items, of course need to have names that can be translated in various languages.

Just like most things in BC have a translatable name, especially if there is a chance you have to communicate with outsiders about it (vendors, buyers).

And if the Shopify connector supports variants, it should of course support translatable names.

(just like it does for items)

It doesn't need to work exactly like I imagined, but translatability should be somehow achieved for variants...! It;s not a new idea...!

That idea is already all over BC! It should be extended to the Shopify connector a course!

And now we gotta vote about it? Pff... Okay.

    Probably there is a misunderstanding.

Variants are indeed supported as per documentation. But not in the way you intended.

And this is the reason why this is a feature request, if you would like to have this design changed, that should be logged through IDEAS site.

    Hi Duilio,

The manual page you refer to (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/shopify/synchronize-items) mentions "variants" as being supported in the shopify connector.

Then if "variants" are supported, it should be supported to have a readable name for them, too, transferred to Shopify!

Maybe the manual page is in error. I do not see any statement that variants are UN-supported. The page at least suggests they are supported.

    Best,

    Wolter

This is currently not supported as per official documentation  Synchronize items and inventory - Business Central | Microsoft Learn

You might think of posting a request of feature enhancment in IDEAS site or vote for an existing one Search (dynamics.com)
