What is the best way of authenticating ASP.NET Extended Application with Dynamic 365 Online

Hi,

I would like to know What is the best way of authenticating ASP.NET Extended Application with Dynamic 365 Online

here is a scenario:

  1. Dynamic 365 functionalities are extended in the ASP.NET application and deployed in Azure Web App.
  2. This Extended Application is not public facing. It should be considered as a part of Dynamic 365 and only Dynamic 365 users should be able to access it.
  3. How can this Extended Application authenticate a user from Dynamic 365? e.g. Server2Server or any other preferred way?
  4. For instance, there are 3 users added in Dynamics 365 and when these users are using Extended Application and making any changes, those changes should be reflected in Dynamics 365 as themselves e.g. created by or modified by a User

Please share your knowledge of such scenario and help me out to resolve.

Thanks

If the ASP.Net application is not already built. Best way is to Leverage Dynamics CRM Portal capabilities.

    1. Authentication can be achieved using Azure AAD , Invitation & Registration basis.

    2. Authorization can be achieved using Portal Web Roles.

I think you can handle all of this with Azure.

It's been a while, but you can delegate permission to your ASP.NET application to CRM, and also use CORS to make sure that nobody except the CRM application have access to your ASP.NET application.

I would check if using delegated permissions will actually pass the authentication token between CRM and your Azure web site.

I did this about a year ago, and this is the logic that I remember from it, but there might be something else I am forgetting.

    Try this approach.
