Difference between Business Unit and Organisation

Posted on by 815

Hello,

I am working in a manufacturing company and we have 3 companies (AJT, BJT, CJT) in different location/counties.

Each company has 2 business division. Initially when i had setup/configure CRM on-premise, i just created AJT 1 organisation.and inside organisation created 3 Business Units.

Now i need to change something here. Remove business Units, create 2 more organisation.

Questions:

1. Can company director/CEO see all the 3 organisation dashboard in 1 screen ?

2.Can company director/CEO see all the 3 organisation reports in 1 screen ?

3.Is possible to have 1 URL site and when user logged in, they should get redirect to their organisation.

Ex: john from AJT

Ayesh from BJT

Donal from CJT

Kindly help !

    Hi Faisal,

Initially, I think having a single org and different business units as sites (AJT, BJT, CJT) will do, you need to configure your security roles in order for people within those BUs (manager, team lead, representatives, I mean various positions within each unit can be represented) then you can create teams to group whoever might have access to the same information (CEOs from AJT, BJT,CJT also in a team, you might want to call that something like CEO_Team). Technically these various sites (AJT, BJT, CJT) are sharing the same database but access to information (All CEOs can have access to the same dashboard if this dashboard is shared with a CEO_Team, same as reports and then a single URL for all) is controlled based on privileges.

    Another option

You can create a custom App for all these organizations. The idea is to have a single database (company.crm4.dynamics.com) and create various apps named after the site and make the app URL default for each site but I find it a little more difficult since it requires little more config compare to the first one.

Hope my suggestions help if not too late.

    Hi Ravi,

Thanks for the reply. Reason behind this changes because,

we have 7 regions across globe and each location has manager and their team.

Now, Sales team should not see other team leads and manager should see only his team lead. I know there is hierarchy security position but this is not working.

I am not sure you got it ?

    Hi Syed,

No, each organisation maintain its own database and security among the users in that organization. You can't share data, records, report etc between organizations.

For your 3rd questions "Is possible to have 1 URL site", you could share "home.dynamics.com/" url to your users which will show them all the organization and then from there they can pick the organization. If you want to have an auto launch then individual users.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

All the 3 question is not possible out of the box, you can't share data between organisation.

But if you want to implement something like this you need to develop a custom interface where you can connect to different organisation and get your required data.

    Hope it will help.
