Security role error while importing solution from Dev to prod

Hi,

I am receiving this issue while importing the solution from dev organization to prod organization. Kindly note that both the organizations have the same build as both these organizations are there on the same server.

Error message: "Cannot import security role. The role with specified role id is not updatable or role name is not unique."

Anyone cracked this before? Would really appreciate your help. Thank you,

    Hi Gagandeep,

    There might be two possibilities

    1. You are importing role which is already  exists in production with same name but different id.

This will happen when you previously imported roles to prod and in development deleted and recreated role with same name.

-- Resolution: change the role in development and try to import.

    2. You might be added system administrator role in your development solution which you are trying to import into production.

If you added then need to remove that role and try importing to prod.

also when you are importing solution.. if you got error.. download log file, this log file is in XML and open that file in excel.

When you open log file in excel, in second tab you will see all details about which components are processed and which are failed.

In excel you will get more details about error.. might be you will get which role is giving problem.

    Hope this will help..

    Hi Mahadeo,

Let me try this today. I think this is a good point to start with. I have gone through the log file and I exactly know which role is throwing this error.

I'm now only wondering if I did delete any role and create a new one!

Is it possible to delete that role on the Production and Import it from the Development Organization?

    Hi Gagandeep,

We faced this issue once in one of our CRM implementation, the easy fix it to delete from the target system and import from dev. Or remove it from the solution that you are importing if there is no update. Also Keep in mind to reassign role to user after import if you are going to delete it from production.

is above Solution worked for you? In this is CRM OnPrem, a detailed error message in Platform traces will give a clear picture. Also base don the above Error message you shared I can think of  that "Name + GUID of Role must match with what is in the CRM system with what is in the .xml"

    Regards,

    Mohammad

    Hello,

Ran into the same issue. Renaming the existing role in the target environment  helped to import the solution.
