eConnect Credentials

Posted on by 75,730

Our client was cleaning up domain accounts and came across the eConnect local service account on the server. They decided to change the password to a more strong password. Now when they go to client machines and run a custom written application as soon as it tries to push data through eConnect the application crashes. Do they now need to go into services on the local computers and change the password on the eConnect service to match that on the server? Will there even be an eConnect service running on the client computers? I suppose a more basic question is do I need to install eConnect on the server and on each workstation that will have this application talking through eConnect? How do I set the connection strings on the workstations to establish connection to the server? The eConnect service on the server has been updated with the new password and is running. The customization application now only runs on the server.

    RE: eConnect Credentials

    I do not see why. The application runs on the server.  However, I did find that this fixed the problem.

    Step 1) Start->All Programs->Microsoft Dynamics->eConnect for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010->Requester Setup->Requester Setup

    Step 2) Click on Connection Settings in the upper left hand corner and then Setup Connection

    Step 3) If there is anything in the boxes for server name and databases blank them out. Leaving the Integrated Security box checked click Save and exit the program.

    Step 4) Program now runs and allows user to import sales order.

    Given that eConnect was using a local admin account, what account was beig used on the workstations? I noticed this application prompts the user to login in by specifying the server and database name and the user credentials. If they do not enter their user credentials it will work any way. I do not have the source code for this program so I cannot see how the connection is actually being made.  I wonder if by doing the above steps that this application went out and got the new password for the domain account called eConnect and since the domain eConnect account and the server local eConnect accounts have the same password that it was able to re-establish the connection.
