Hi- I'm setting up our lead entity and the thought of a seller auto-generating an account, contact, and opportunity record when they qualify a lead is a scary thought. I'm fairly certain the likelihood of the users creating duplicate contacts and accounts is very high. I was thinking of creating a duplicate detection rule for the Contact and Company where, if there is any data in the first name or company fields, prompt the user to check for existing records. Unfortunately, I can't seem to create a broad duplicate detection rule like that- I can only set them up to look for exact matches. Any thoughts on the best way to handle?
Cheers

I have the same question (0)you can create two different dup detection rules where you mix and match the "base record type" and "matching record type". This way you can search for duplicates where the lead name matches the last name of the contact and a second rule where you match the lead name against the account name.
This has to be an exact match indeed, or first x amount of characters/last x amount of characters. You can use several techniques to optimize this. One way could be to strip irrelevant characters (such as inc) from the account name and store this in a custom field especially for dup detection. Another more sophisticated approach would be to generate a soundex value and match against this.
Hope this helps,
