Hi, trying to setup SERIAL Verifone pinpad 1000SE on a computer with POS 7.
Im using Configure Microsoft OPOS Service objects, and when I test the pin pad i get,
UNABLE TO OPEN DEVICE ERROR CODE 104.
I tried on com 3 and 4, any ideas?
Thanks,
Sacha.

Yes. the problem was the baud rate. some pinpads are setup at 9600 other at 2400 other at 1200.
Could not find a way to change the rate on the Pinpad itself but on the OPOS configuration I changed the baud rate until it worked.
You do not need any Serial Drivers.

Did you ever find a solution to this. I am having the exact same problem. We moved the RMS installation to a Windows 7 (64) machine. I know that the installed serial card was set up for COM3. I have verified that the COM port settings match the RMS OPOS settings for a pinpad. I know that it is encrypted for the correct merchant services provider. It worked on the old Windows XP computer.
Anyone who has a resolution for this or knows where I can find a driver for the SERIAL version of the Verifone 1000se, please let me know.
Thanks.
You need to find out the correct serial com port # for the pinpad.
You will get error if there is another device already assigned the com port.
For example Pole display is on Com 3 and you are testing the pinpad also on com 3.

Sorry, I was thinking USB as that all we do anymore.
Here's Verifone's website with manuals, maybe there is something there to help;

The OPOS still should work as this capability is simple and old. I would double check your COM port settings and double check that it has been injected with your processors code.
Again 64bit is iffy.
Thanks for the answer, this is a SERIAL PinPad, NOT USB.
Do I still need this driver? Where can I get it?
I'm more inclined to think the Configure Microsoft OPOS Service objects are uot of date, Do you know if there is a new version?
Thanks,
Sacha
First make sure the install the Windows 7 driver. It likes to install it on COM 12 or higher.
Is this 32 or 64b? 32b doesn't seem to be a problem, 64b keeps changing its COM port on re-start
Don't forget that you can change the COM port in the Configure OPOS setup by just typing it in, change COM3 to COM12 by typing it.
Check Device Manager in Windows to verify settings of your com port. Make sure your settings are correct for baud, data bits, parity, stop bit. I think defaults are baud=1200, 7 data bits, Parity=even, stop bits 1).
Also the Pin pad should have been injected by your card processor. If you bought one one Ebay, you would have to send to processor to be injected.
