Customizing live CRM server

Posted on by 210

Hello. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is being used at my workplace by a large amout of employees. Wanted to know if it is possible to make customizations to the live CRM running on IIS server via the CRM admin account in internet explorer e.g. adding new values to a picklist and publishing changes, adding new elements to form etc, without causing any CRM downtime to users. Can customizations such as these be done to a live CRM server?

Yes, it can be done, but it's definitely not recommended. There's no real downtime, but when you publish you customizations there might be impact to the users.

If you don't have a dev server, create a dev organization in your firm to do your development. It's far better than making your changes in production.

    Hello,

I would not recommend doing that on Live environment.
