Adding a new database to CRM SQL Server

Currently we have a dedicated SQL Server for CRM, containing the MSCRM and Config databases, etc.  I'm wondering if there is any guidance on adding a new database to that server to contain data specific to integrations between CRM and other systems in our enterprise.  The data is related to CRM, and it seems like a logical place to keep this information, but I didn't know if there would be any consequences of having a different database stored on the same server when it comes to performance, upgrades, etc.  Any help would be appreciated.

Microsoft recommends running dedicated sql server just for CRM but if you  enough resource to handle the load  of another database you can add integration database to the same sql server. It will not cause any issue while upgrading crm.

    Hi Tls,

Yes, it is logical place, not a best practice but you can still get on it.

The disadvantage here is you do not have dedicated SQL Server engine for CRM, so any problem with the integration which in some point you want to restart the database server, you need to restart the whole SQL Server, including your CRM, and also it will apply vice versa. And yes, it can increase the performance load on your DB server and increase the size as well because now you have to keep 3 databases there. Imagine that the other enterprise system has their own job to read the data from your integration DB, it costs the performance load there.

The advantage here you can read the data faster and no need to join different server in your Query (if needed in SSRS for instance) or in SSIS is also make your data faster because you have same server connection.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.
