Information Rights Management in Management Reporter Reports

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has used Information Rights Management with Management Reporter Reports.  I need to find a way to deliver Management Reporter Reports so that viewers cannot print or copy\paste the content.  We have AD RMS server in our environment and we use it with MS Office products, but I don't know if Management Reporter can leverage the AD RMS technology.

Any info on this?  Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

I don't know the answer to this one, but if you can use it with office, is generating the reports to Excel and option with the AD RMS working over the top of the end file.

The problem with this is that you have to manually export into the XPS or Excel format each and every one of the reports you want to publish.  We have a lot of reports and doing this manually is just not the best option.

What I envision is having a set of scheduled reports automatically publishing to SharePoint in XPS or Excel format so that the IRM settings of the document library apply.

After researching forums and other sources, I concluded that this is not presently an option in Management Reporter.  I submitted suggestion number 916136 in the Microsoft Connect Portal.  https://connect.microsoft.com.  The title of the suggestion is:  Allow Management Reporter to Publish XPS or Excel Version of a Report to SharePoint Instead of a Link to the Report.  If this is something that you may want to use, please vote this up in the Microsoft Connect site.

Below is the content of the suggestion.  Please vote!

    -----------------

We use Information Rights Management in SharePoint with AD RMS to protect sensitive financial information. I would love to publish MR Reports directly to a SharePoint Document Library, but I cannot at this time because IRM does not get applied to the link that is being published by Management Reporter.

If Management Reporter can place the report in XPS or Excel format in the library, then the IRM rules on that library would apply.

BENEFITS: 1) This allows us to use all Rights Management features to protect the sensitive information in these reports and 2) it simplifies the management of user security on these reports.

    1) Rights Management features are more robust in limiting the printing, copying, an emailing of reports.

    2) As it is, we need to grant users access to the reports in MR and in the SharePoint library where the links are being published. If we are able to publish XPS or Excel documents directly to SharePoint, we only need to concern ourselves with granting access to the SharePoint libraries.

Although this would reduce the number of Management Reporter Licenses needed, it would place additional emphasis on the benefits of using an array of Microsoft Technologies (Management Reporter, SharePoint, AD RMS) to provide a secure environment for publishing financial reports.
