I want to add a quick view form of the owner in my opportunity form. So, I created a quick view form in the User, published, then I tried to add it to the form without success. The field is just not listed in the Lookup Field dropdown. I thought this might be because the owner is either a user or a team and that case is not managed.
Thereby, I'm looking for a solution to display my quick view form. So far, I'm thinking creating another user and team field. Then populating them by workflow whenever I need to. In the form, I would show only one of the quick view depending on the situation, in javascript.
Is there a better solution than this?

I see the same behaviour as you when testing, it's strange as there is no issue with Regarding or Customer fields which can also relate to multiple entities. But there must be a limitation on the Owner field.
Reading this (dynamics-crm-2016.com/.../quick-view-2) I can see that he also had the same issue in CRM 2013.
The solution that you outlined would also be the approach that I would follow.
