eOne SmartConnect Not "Reading" Certain Cells

Hello:

I have a SmartConnect map for the GP general ledger that successfully runs and imports data from an Excel 2007 spreadsheet.

When previewing this file in the SmartConnect Data Source window, the only data from Column D that appears are cells containing “999”.

SmartConnect, therefore, is not pulling in any data from this column other than cells that contain "999".

In other words, SmartConnect is only importing data for certain cells. If a cell has the number "999" in it, the tool imports "999". But, for the cells that contain anything other than "999", the data is not imported.

I have compared the formatting of the cells in that column with the cells containing "999" and the cells containing other data. The formatting is the same, and there is no protection in place for any of the cells.

The only way that SmartConnect reads the data is if I create a new column and manually key in data for the cells other than the ones that contain "999". In other words, copying and "paste specialing" the data onto the same column is not good enough. I have to hand-key the data and even do so in a new column.

I have, also, taken other troubleshooting steps such as copying data into a new spreadsheet and copying the data into a new tab of the spreadsheet. No luck.

Too, I have tried other typical troubleshooting steps: duplicating the map (attached), recreating the column, manually typing the values in cells other than “999”, changing the format of the cells, etc. No luck.

How do I get SmartConnect to see this data?

The client is on GP 11.00.1799 and SmartConnect 20.11.11.63.

Is there anything "in" Excel that can cause quirks with importing tools like this? Can anyone think of anything else to try?

Thanks! Much appreciated!

John

    Hi Jonathan:

I forgot to come back to this Forum to update!  :)  I had two other Forums to update and forgot this one.

Actually, I did contact eOne already.  Here is the reason and solution, in case it helps someone else:

Try sorting the Excel spreadsheet in order of the Column that SmartConnect is not reading.  On my end, I used Excel’s sort from “Z to A”.  Once I did this, then SmartConnect was able to read the job IDs.

SmartConnect’s Excel connector looks at the first few rows (8 rows I think) to determine the data type of that column.  If the first few rows are seen as a number, it assumes the whole column is numbers and ignores strings - and vice versa.
