How to merge Ribbon buttons from two instances?

Hi there,

I have the task to merge two development instances with two unmanaged Solutions.

Therefore I imported customizings as unmanaged solution from System A to System B.

The buttons have unique names and prefixes.

My problem: After importing, the ribbon customizings of System B were overridden and are missing. How can I solve this?

See for example a screenshot of account ribbon for both systems:

Any help appreciated!

Simon

I always thought these things were additive so, my stab at a guess is, buttons have a position number which may be matching.  Perhaps you could slide one of them to the left and reapply?

Are there too many of them that you couldn't just recreate the drops?

You see XML next to Solution elements in the bottom left corner (above yellow marked entity - Account), click that, copy the XML & compare   it before merging them using Notepad++ or some other editor, then replace in final XML to solve this.

    Hello Simon,

This is because of sequence and group where you have put your button in the System A and B. You may get expected result if all the button sequence and group are unique. However the advantage . As you are using unmanaged solution so go ahead and do manually  to set sequence and put button in a proper group which would be the better options.

Thanks for your quick responses, which all 3 helped me in some way but not as I expected:

I have play around with putting buttons in groups, sequence numbers, and so on. That has not solved my problem. I also compared XMLs of ribbons and I am sure, that Ids, Sequences, Group Names, Button Names, Button sequences and so on are unique.

So my impression is, that it is not possible two merge ribbons of two unmanaged solutions. So in the end I am going for TallyHoDukey's approach and I will just have to re-create all the buttons from System B manually.

    Hi

In my case it was on two different groups. So the first solution was imported & published, followed by second. It worked.
