Setup of Tooling Used in Manufacturing

Would someone kindly point me to documentation which shows in detail how to setup tooling used for manufacturing?

Specifically, I refer to physical tooling that is shared between multiple machine centers (e.g. engraved dies).

Thanks in advance,

-Anthony

    Hello Anthony,

    Hope you are well.

Here's some  documentation regarding Manufacturing setup: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/production-configure-production-processes

Hope this help you to move forward.

    Carmen,

Thanks very much for your reply. I've read that document but it doesn't articulate how individual tools are identified, specified and tracked within the system. I do appreciate your time.

You can probably use Resource as the tool.

    Teddy,

Do you feel that the approach of using the Resource as tool(s) is a viable option in situations where up to 14 tools are used per machine center, per job? Also, the tools are shared between machine centers, are key in defining the specification of the finished goods item, and where they affect planning / scheduling as well as costs & sell price.

    Thanks,

    Anthony

It may or may not be a good approach, but I don't see why not. It's hard to tell without actually understanding your whole process.

Another way is to treat your tool as machine center, and your current machine center as work center.

Or there may not be a perfect solution for you. You just need to make use of whatever available.
