Execute Submit to Workflow in D365 F&O

Hi,

Has anyone successfully executed submitting a D365 workflow using Power Automate?

I'm trying to use Power Automate to submit a workflow.  However, I get an error that the SubmittingUser does not have the proper privileges.  I used my login (GUID) which has system admin access to D365F&O so that should not be the issue.  I am guessing I might not be using the correct format.

The exact error says: "An error occurred. Exception occurred while executing action activateFromWorkflowType on Entity Workflow: Failed to create a session; confirm that the user has the proper privileges to log on to Mircosoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.  Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
clientRequestId: cbbb1fd6-0c2b-48cd-8d6e-d8c3c357a3bb"

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Tristan

    Hi Tristan,

Submitting user is the F&O User ID, not GUID.
Here is an example from my sandbox, where I submitted a timesheet for approval.

Here is what it looks like in F&O:

    Hi Jonas,

I really appreciate the time you put responding and the screenshots provided.

Is the RecID going to be the RecID of the workflow or the transaction I'm trying to submit?

    Thanks,
    Tristan

It's the RecId of the transaction you want to submit.
F&O uses the WorkflowTemplateName to determine the appropriate workflow to use, and the table for transaction recid. You can get the template name from the workflow configuration in F&O.

    Thanks again Jonas.

I tried using the "Get a Record" and "List items present in table" actions from the Fin&Ops connector to get the RecID of the transaction I'm trying to submit to the workflow but I can't seem to get it from there.  It only lists the transaction data.

Do you have a way to get the RecID?

    Hi Jonas,

I got a successful run on executing by following your recommendation - but manually adding the RecID of the transaction I wanted to submit.

However, in D365F&O the workflow did not submit.  Is there another setting I should be looking at to make this work?

Again, I really appreciate your time helping me on this.

It looks to be a limitation specifically with the purchase requisition workflow. Unlike other workflows, it's not updating the header status of the requisition - I.e. it's stuck in status draft.

If you look under Common -> Inquiries -> Workflow -> Workflow history, you should be able to find it.

To answer your question about RecId, you can find it using the virtual tables available in the F&O Power Platform environment, if you have linked such an environment to it.

It's marked for "Auto Create", so it should be available already.

    Hi Jonas,

    Thanks for the responses.

Such a shame it's not working for the Purchase Requisition workflow since this is our current requirement.

    Appreciate all the help!

    Thanks,
    Tristan
