Year End Close without Financial Dimensions

Hello AX Brains Trust!

I have a question regarding the Year End Rollover/Close. My company got AX 2012 R3 in May of 2016 and the first year-end roll (which was 8 months really) took 44 hrs!

Firstly, is this normal?

Secondly, is the reason it took this long because we ticked the option to Transfer Financial Dimensions? What will happen if we choose not to tick this option?

Thanks

    Hi Satrangi,

I would say that 44 hours is not normal.

Whether you need to include the financial dimensions in your opening transactions or not is something I cannot answer you.

It depends on whether you need things such as cost center/business unit/eepartment and other financial Dimension Information on the Balance sheet account Level. Some companies are doing that because they need to create - for example - a balance sheet by business units. If this is the example, you have to enable the financial dimension for business units when generating the opening transactions. If you are not doing such things, I do not see a necessity to check the financial dimension checkboxes.

Do you have a test system available where you can test what difference it makes if you uncheck the financial dimension checkboxes? I would suspect that you do not even need 10% of the time that you required previously.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thanks Ludwig,

I guess my other question is, can we pick which dimensions to include in the rollover instead of doing the whole lot?

Or if we decide to forgo this option, can we just then enter a journal later to distribute these out to different BUs etc?

    Hi,

Yes, you can transfer only selected financial dimensions simply by ticking the financial dimensions you need.

Please test in a demo system first to make sure that you won't have to wait another 44 hours ;-)

Thank you Ludwig. I will definitely do that!

    Hi Ludwig,

I ran this on the test system with only 1 dimension picked but the process ran for 28hrs before AX Test was killed.

When I checked with user who previously ran this exercise, she mentioned that she had actually picked only one dimension but at the end of her 44hr update, it had processed every dimension. (We have 14 dimensions). Am, I missing something? Why is it processing all dimensions even though we have picked only 1?

    Hello again,

We decided to run the rollover without the dimensions ticked. This was very quick but gave us 2 errors in the end:

    First:

Total of the transactions in the year is not 0.00.

              Total is -444.75.

This is a serious error. Run \"Check\" on ledger transactions.

    Second:

Microsoft.Dynamics.Ax.Xpp.ErrorException: Exception of type 'Microsoft.Dynamics.Ax.Xpp.ErrorException' was thrown.

      at Dynamics.Ax.Application.LedgerTransferOpening.Insertopeningtrans(LedgerPostingGeneralJournalController _generalJournalController) in LedgerTransferOpening.insertOpeningTrans.xpp:line 194

      at Dynamics.Ax.Application.LedgerTransferOpening.Run() in LedgerTransferOpening.run.xpp:line 778

at Dynamics.Ax.Application.LedgerTransferOpening.runIL(Object[] _pack, Boolean _isPublicSectorEnabled, Boolean ) in LedgerTransferOpening.runIL.xpp:line 10

at Microsoft.Dynamics.Ax.Xpp.PredefinedFunctions.runAsInvoke(String className, String staticMethodName, Object[] parms, Object[]& exportInfolog)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

We think it might be an FX issue, but are unsure. What sort of Check is it asking for us to do?

    Hi,

Can you check this solution that is posted on LCS

    Hi Ludwig,

I ran the process without the tick and it gave me the same error. Unfortunately, because it is a critical Stop error, it stops the yr end roll from completing. I ran a consistency check on the full GL and it gave me only one error which was this:

    Check-Error.jpg

The strange thing is that I can't find this journal anywhere.

    Hi Satrangi,

I have seen this warning message about a system journal. If I remember it correctly then it is related to an invoice pool journal that has to have this name in order to get rid of the warning message.

Yet, I do not believe that this warning message is responsible for what you experience with the year end closing process.

A last thing that I want to ask/check is whether you have the parameter 'create closing transactions during transfer' activated? I am asking this because this parameter creates a lot of additional YE transactions.

If this does not help, I would suggest that you get a developer in who can help you debugging this. What you experience seems a bit strange and might be caused by some modifications or a bug.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

No, I only have 'Delete close-of-year Transactions during transfer' & 'Voucher Number must be filled' in ticked.

From the looks of it, we'll have to do the full run. Thank you very much for your help, though! :)
