Management Reporter - Migration Wizard has stopped working at the Migrate FRx Data screen

Posted on by 445

Our customer migrated to MR 2.1.9001.11 back in 2014.  They have used maybe 2 of their scores of MR reports and still use FRx.  Now we are upgrading them and they want FRx migrated to MR again.  I exported the MR reports they use so we can import after migration.  Also backed up the MR db.

However, when we get to the Migrate FRx Data screen after connecting to the MR database, we get the message that the wizard has stopped working and have a choice to close or check for solution and close.  Either way it closes and nothing happens.  This wizard worked 4 years ago for their migration in the same setting.  My network/SQL user is an admin.

There are two errors in Event Viewer.  The first is .NET Runtime:

Application: MigrationWizard.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.

The second is Application Error:

The wizard does delete all reports in MR so it does get that far.  They have 5 companies and 5 spec sets and they are all cleaned up and assigned to a catalog.  The G32 files were renamed and FRx launched for each company and compacted all local and system dbs.  We followed the prep document as we have done many times.

Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated.  Not sure where to check next...

Thanks!

Althea

We ended up using one of the customers incidents from their support plan with MSFT and sent them the SysData folder and they cleaned it up for us and sent it back and it ran fine.  Was worth it!  Even if you need to pay for an incident it will be cheaper than your time, I'm sure.  Good luck!

Althea, did you resolve this?  We have the same problem on a migration.
