hi all

i am having an issue with one particular terminal server  when using mail merge in CRM Dynamics 4 rollup 9 (including all before it) . It comes up with an error.

Heres how i get the error

Select accounts, find the account name, double click on the account, then from within the account select actions then mail merge.

The error comes up with a generic microsoft box titled message from webpage and the content says :

An error has occured in microsoft dynamics CRM mail merge.

If i hit ok on the error another box follows saying

an error has occured in the script on this page.

 line 285

 char 1

Object doesnt support this property or method

Code 0

Url: .....( has our url in here)

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page ?

 yes / no

if i select yes it still doesnt work,

If i login to the server as administrator or another user same problem

Other computers are not experincing this problem ( that i know of)

 Thanks

    Hi Daryl,

So this issue only happens with one user and on terminal services? Everyone else is ok?  If so, my recommendation would be to blow way the user's profile and issue will probably be fixed.

i have done some more research into this and read an article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308260

appears this issue is not a CRM problem it is a internet explorer problem

i have gone through the steps and it appears that it has something to do with the temporary internet files, in method 4, step 4.

When i went into the temporary internet files it came up with a message saying that the temporary internet files had exceeded the limit - the limit is set to the highest which is  1024mb. so i cant up the limit.

I deleted the temporary internet files and it worked, however after mucking around on the internet and then trying again later same probelm,

Does anyone have an idea on what the temporary internet files should be set to so this will work?

or can it be setup to delete temporary internet files or overright if full?

OUr pcs here in the office have it set to 100MB.  This should be sufficient unless you are going to strange web sites that download lots of stuff???

Also - make sure that there is no disk quota or disk space issue that would prevent the allocated space for temp internet files from being used.

futher research shows its not exceeding the limit when the problem happens, to temporarily fix the issue i can delete temporary internet files and then it will work once, but if i close outlook ./ crm and open it again and go through the same process the problem occurs again.

so it must be a particular temporary internet file causing the issue?

Yep.....we have a couple clients with a large number of terminal services users.  We often blow away the profile and strange things like this start to happen.

If you temp internet files, verify that all files were really deleted from the temp internet files really deleted.

    another twist to the tail

the problem happens when using crm through outlook but if i find out what the URL is before i select actions / mail merge and open Internet explorer and paste the URL into Internet Explorer it works - no error

we could use this as a workaround but the way our business works is the process is through outlook rather than through internet explorer

     hmmm...

We have the exact same work-around working. I'm thinking reinstalling office would be the fix.

    Hi Guys,

I was just surfing the net to try to find a solution regarding this mail merge error that also our complany is having. We also work via terminal servers. We also found the temporary solution by deleting the temp internet files. But indeed, close the tool and the problem will appear again. This is also the end of this blog.....is the only solution to this problem to remove the temp files every day? Isn´t there a permanent fix for this error?

I hope you can help us :)

    Thanks in advance!!
